Gary Campbell heads up the FUEL Trust, an NGO which he co-founded in 2007, which aims to make a positive and permanent contribution to the lives of young South Africans.
FUEL currently spends the bulk of its time working closely with the Department of Basic Education to embed monitoring and response systems which support improved performance of their National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP). With a budget in excess of R6 billion, the NSNP serves meals to more than 9 million learners every school day. The goal of the programme is to contribute to enhanced learning capacity and improved access to education by encouraging learners to go to school, to stay at school and to help them concentrate whilst at school.
The FUEL team is increasingly seeking opportunities to share and leverage its monitoring and response methodology in other government systems. Currently FUEL is working with key stakeholders in the areas of curriculum and early childhood development to support improved delivery.
